Official announcement on international collaborative research for viral hemorrhagic fevers with Africa sponsored by Korea National Institute of Health, KCDC
Update 06.04.2023
[Preface]
The Korea National Institute of Health (KNIH),
a research organization under the Korea Diseases Control and Prevention Agency
(KDCA) is devoted for promoting the public health through the research on
infectious and non-infectious diseases.
From COVID-19 global pandemic, it has
noticed that infectious disease is the single biggest cause of death worldwide.
Emerging and re-emerging infectious agents, such as SARS-CoV-2 and virus
causing haemorrhagic fever, required detailed studies to understand pathogen biology
and pathogenesis in the host. Viral hemorrhagic fevers are important causes
resulting in major epidemics in Africa. Ensuring
global health securities to hemorrhagic fever viruses, international
cooperation is the most important for the prevention human infections. In this
view, rapid and accurate detection for viral hemorrhagic fevers is one of
important measures to prevent and control the human infections.
Therefore, KNIH intend to strengthen the
international network on cooperative research for laboratory study with African countries
(institutes) through collaborative research including serological survey with
evaluation of KNIH-developed diagnostic kits against VHFs and other circulating
viral infections in Africa’ national public issue and look for the other
potentials for advanced research on VHFs.
