Background
  • There is a need to establish an international cooperation system, such as joint research and establishing domestic and international networks, etc.

    - Prioritizing the establishment of a cooperation system with CEPI (100 days mission), which has announced rapid vaccine development in preparation for public health emergencies

Status of the cooperation institution (CEPI)

(About CEPI) Its purpose is to secure necessary global health by accelerating the development of vaccines against infectious diseases and pandemic threats.

* It was established with support from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Wellcome Trust, World Economic Forum, etc.

< Main activities >

  • (The first three-year term after its establishment) It has focused on the development of vaccines against high-risk pathogens* for low- and middle-income countries
  • (2017-2021). The first five-year term after its establishment were named CEPI 1.0.

    - (CEPI 1.0 Strategy) was to invest, coordinate and accelerate vaccine progression through clinical development towards delivery, making them accessible to all people in need.

  • (CEPI 2.0 Strategy) aims to develop safe and effective vaccine in 100 days from the moment the a pathogen is sequenced and/or the need for a vaccine is recognized to initial.
Background
  • IVI : The first international organization headquartered in Korea hosted by the Korean government (June 1994)
  • * It hosting conditions: research institute building (16,982㎡), research equipment (about $6 million) and 30% support for operating expenses, granting privileges and tax exemptions equivalent to international organizations for the institute and foreign employees

About IVI
  • The world’s only non-profit international organization that conducts international vaccine research and development

    - It is involved in the discovery, development and distribution of safe, effective and inexpensive vaccines to improve health conditions and prevent infectious diseases in low- and middle-income countries.

  • (Main Activities) Vaccine development and distribution for low- and middle-income countries and global public health

    - Providing services (vaccine research and development, technology transfer, and training) to eradicate infectious diseases* in low- and middle-income countries.

    * Cholera, typhoid fever, iNTS, paratyphoid fever, dysentery, Zika, Adenovirus

    - Promoting vaccine-related R&D in cooperation with related organizations such as vaccine manufacturers, foundations, and governments
