Major tasks of the National Vaccine Development Support Center

Support for efficacy evaluation to lower the barriers to entry into the technology of vaccine development
- Support for testing and analysis including establishment of evaluation methods and development of reference materials for vaccine candidate substance efficacy evaluation.

2021
Approved animal-use at the biosafety level 3 research facility (ABL3) in the efficacy evaluation building
  • 5 breeding rooms, 2 autopsy rooms, 6 analysis rooms, etc. 713m2 (216 pyeong)
Center for Vaccine Research has completed the certification of the Sample analysis in clinical trials Institute (GCLP, Good Clinical Laboratory Practice).
Completed the National Culture Collection for Pathogens (NCCP)

Enacted and enforced 「Act on Promotion of Collection, Management, and Utilization of Pathogen Resources」

Center for Vaccine Research passed preliminary feasibility study, promoted the project with a total project cost of KRW 67.7 billion
2013
Formed the "Vaccine Industrialization Planning Team" jointly with government ministries and the public and private sectors, promoted "Measures to Enter Global Vaccine Industry", and adopted it as the main agenda of the "National Policy Coordination Meeting [2013]" chaired by the Prime Minister
2012
Promoted the establishment of ‘Center for Vaccine Research’
Established the pathogen resource management TF, designated/announced it as a deposit registration and preservation organization
2011
Signed an MOU for pathogen resource exchange and cooperation with Deutsche Sammlung von Mikroorganismen und Zellkulturen(DSMZ) in Germany
2009
Heightened social demand for ‘vaccine sovereignty’ after the swine flu pandemic
  • Established Vaccine Research Division in the Infectious Disease Research Center, National Institute of Health, Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, to secure public vaccine technology and to support its development
